Who's your favorite Horse!?

I have to say I love SCOOTER! I fell for him before the boy was even broke into the string and used for the rides. He was out on the pasture by the new cabins as you enter the ranch and was with the pregnant mares. I have a fondess for the Paints and he is just stunning. I went out to the pasture and talked to him. We became instant friends. This was March of 1998. The next time I visited the ranch Russell has just finished breaking him in and Russell said I had enough experience to ride Scooter so I did! OMG what a great trip. Scooter was like a mountain goat jumping up the side of the mountain on the fast mountain ride. I was sqeeking with delight and excitment everytime he would jump up. It was so fun! The wranger kept looking back and me and asking if everything was ok and my friends explained I was fine, just having the time of my life! LOL

So I have to say Scootie as I call him is my favorite. My daughter's favorite is Hopi. He's a good boy too!

My favorite horse is Pancho. He is a black Percheron and has the smoothest lope I have ever felt. We have been on many exciting fast rides together. Whenever I was in his saddle, I knew that he would take care of me. I did hear that he has retired, so I hope that he has a long and happy life wherever he is because he has spent at least 10 years at White Stallion pulling the hay wagon and making lots of riders happy. Too bad I live so far from Tucson because I may have offered to adopt him!

haning only been once, i would have to say DRIFTER. I am not very confident at any thing above a walk. But within the first day I was already loping. Drifter suited me like a glove, he is a big, slow gentle boy. We were always at the back of the rides so as not to hold anyone up. This suited me just fine (if i fell off no one was going to run me over), I didn't mind you. I read that Drifer was 26 i couldn't belivev it and he's been at the ranch for years. I would love to ride him again, but I'm sure he'll be retired by the time I get back. I live in the UK, which is just as well as I'm sure if I were any closer I'd be at the rance ar least twice a year like many of you. Any way I'm saving hard so I can return, it was undoubtibly the best holiday, I can't imagine anything else comparing.

I left the ranch on Friday 31st October, and already wish I was back there...and the reason being? .....

The wonderful Winchester! I was lucky enough to be assigned Winchester for our time at the ranch, and I think he is amazing. Beautiful, spirited, fast and fun. Not only this, but he has a sweet, and affectionate nature, and also nickered at you when you spoke to him which was adorable! I have ridden many horses and have never built up such a bond as I did with Winchester, even in our short time together. We did all the fast rides, the mountain ride and team penning (which he was very excited about! :D ). A group of us also got together for a barrel racing lesson, which Winchester, as a former Barrel racing rodeo horse, excelled at - even with me as a first time western rider on his back

I am very lucky to have two horses back home in the UK, but I can honestly say that if I lived in the States, I would have been begging the Trues to sell him to me!!

I would return to the White Stallion Ranch without hesitation, and with my booking form would be putting in a long letter begging to be assigned Winchester again!

MESA looked after me soooo well on my first visit - he's a very special boy, tall, grey, very very cool, and gave this nervous beginner the confidence first to walk and, only three days later, to take part in the team penning and lope! I became very fond of him and think he's very handsome. I'm hoping I can ride him again on my next visit.

Believe it or not...none, so far!!

Here's the funny part...I've been to WSR twice, and have fallen in love with the place, the True family, and Ron the Wrangler...Ron is the father of a fellow rugby player friend of my husband's!! We will be back to WSR as often as possible, next time being Feb 2010. And I love being on the ranch so much that I don't care that so far my assigned horses and I have not meshed well. I suppose it's my fault that my horses and I haven't gotten along, because I consider myself a somewhat amatuer rider even though I've owned horses for many years. Consequently, I'm given one of the more steady, dependable, slower horses. I don't really ride much at home because getting to trails to have an enjoyable ride is more trouble than it's worth. Besides, if you have ever owned horses, you know what I mean when I say that by the time I've done all the daily chores and taken care of the horses properly, I'm tired and don't feel like riding around and around in a circle in an arena going nowhere, which is what I'd be doing unless we hook up truck and trailer and head off on an hour drive just to ride trails...Oh the pain of living in the city!!

I think that's why I have enjoyed riding at WSR even though both of my mounts, Onyx and a little gray gelding..can't remember his name, were pretty much SLO-POKES and I had to keep after them all the time to keep up with the other riders. On our 2nd trip out in March 2009, I knew I was getting another "pokey pony" when the wrangler handed me a riding crop for the gray horse the very first day!! I know I could have asked for a different horse, but both times I actually have enjoyed the challenge of keeping the horses moving along! That is the wonder of WSR...just being out on trails every day regardless of the horse's attitude is heaven on earth!!
