CACTUS COWGIRLS – COUNTRY AND CULTURE
Sunday, August 31, 2014 – Sunday, September 7, 2014
If you’d like to enjoy the activities of the ranch and still sample a taste of the surrounding Southwest – this is the perfect opportunity. We’ll ride early and late using the middle of the day for special activities and sightseeing. The mood will be set with a Sangria welcome party. During the week the horse activities will include some lessons, scenic slow rides, rides with loping, team penning, a sunset ride and a breakfast ride.
The cultural influence will include the following day trips:
Wednesday: San Xavier Mission, was founded as a Catholic mission in 1692 by Father Kino. Construction of the current church began in 1783 and completed in 1797. It is the oldest intact European structure in Arizona and is located in the village of Wa:k on the Tohono O’odham reservation. Next stop is Tumacacori. This non-restored mission was established in 1691, making it the oldest Jesuit mission site in Southern Arizona. They have a wonderful museum. As we make our way towards home, we’ll stop at Tubac – A historic presidio that is Arizona’s fastest growing artist colony with a 250-year Spanish history.
Thursday: We visit Diane Madaras’ Art Gallery after lunch. Diane is one of Tucson’s most popular artists and she will personally greet us. She features many aspects of the White Stallion Ranch in her paintings.
Friday: We’ll visit the fall Gem Show. There is also a Bead Show going on at the same time. We plan to take a peek at both.
Saturday: We’re off to the world renown living museum/zoo, the Sonoran Desert Museum. This is at the top of your must-see list when you come to Tucson.
All of this plus there will be some fun evening activities to entertain you. This is our first September Cactus Cowgirl program and it appears to offer everything you can imagine. Most importantly, there still is time to relax at the pool, create wonderful new friendships and experience a trip to the Southwest like none other.
